Join the movement for public health care

NationBuilder r1

Dear Paov,

Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, there has never been more evidence that an equitable, well-funded, public health care system is as crucial as ever. Whether we’re talking about paid sick days for workers, safety and quality care in long-term care facilities, burnout of frontline workers, or access to health care for newcomers to Canada, we have learned over and over that the well-being of all depends on the well-being of the most vulnerable.

2022 presents a rare window of opportunity for key improvements in our health care system. We are seeing fresh commitments on Pharmacare and dental care from the federal government as well as a shared understanding by federal and provincial governments that a recruitment and retention plan for health care workers must be an urgent priority.

Despite this, we are also seeing renewed attacks from forces seeking to privatize health care: a growing foothold of investor-owned companies in virtual health care; the increased influence of the pharmaceutical lobby; and a systematic false... discourse in the press about failure of public health care in Canada.

Now is the time for an organized people's movement to take action for the health care system we need.

I'm reaching out today to ask: will you join the movement in 2022 by becoming a BC Health Coalition member?

Become a Member

As a coalition, we depend on the active support of members to be connected to health care realities on the ground. Together, we present a broad network of voices for strengthening public health care in British Columbia. We hope you will consider supporting our movement as we continue being the voice for public health care in this critical time.

What to expect in 2022

  • Seniors' Care Accountability Assembly. A project team is hard at work organizing an accountability forum, where our membership will engage with the B.C. Government on key commitments to improve long-term care, home care and home support.
  • Corporate Virtual Care Campaign. Our Anti-Privatization Advisory Group will be launching a campaign to push back against the growing for-profit virtual health industry which is eroding our primary health care system.
  • Membership engagement opportunities. New quarterly General Meetings will give you more frequent opportunities to connect with BCHC and other members, learn about our campaigns, and get involved in our work!

Membership Options

We hope you sign up for a membership in 2022 and, if possible, support our upcoming campaigns with a donation of $10, $25, $50 or more. The easiest way to do this is by credit card using our online membership system.

If you prefer to make a contribution by cheque, please download the membership form and mail it in with your membership fee.

Even if you cannot make a membership contribution at this time, you can still show your support with a free membership. Your voice and active membership is just as important as your financial support.

Please refer to our Membership FAQ page if you have questions, and don't hesitate to get in touch directly.
