Winners of the 2014 UVic Student and Staff Sustainability Champion Awards will be announced later today at the St. Paddy’s Day Green Drinks event, 4:30-6:30 PM in Cadboro Commons. See below for event details. Stop by and congratulate our winners!
UVic has become the first institution in BC to implement an Informed Dining program which provides customers with detailed nutritional information on standard menu items served at UVic’s Food Services outlets. UVic is also one of a handful of universities that employ a dietitian on staff. Read more in the media release.
Interesting article on the future of the "millennial" generation faced with a future of climate change, species extinction, rising debt, etc. who asks “Are we screwed?” See The Tyee.
Volunteers are needed to the 3rd annual Creatively United for the Planet... Arts and Sustainability Festival (April 25th and 26th) that attracts over 5,000 people. See website to find out more.

CHANGING GEARS - SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION EXPO
Mar 22nd, 11 AM to 5 PM, Pearkes Recreation Centre
The BC Sustainable Energy Association and partners present a day of information on sustainable transportation options and ideas. Day will feature displays and presentations from local organizations, governments and local businesses on understanding the carbon footprint of transportation, re-designing streets and urban spaces for people not vehicles, developing infrastructures to support "active transportation", improving the reach, diversity and comfort of transit options and electric vehicles. Workshops will include a presentation by BC Transit and UVic's Transportation Demand Management program. See
