Spring Training Victoria March 29-31
VIPIRG is helping out with this very important training being organized by the Forest Action Network at the end of March (29-31). Please share this widely and consider attending the training!
This month in Victoria, meet the people on the frontlines against the pipelines – people like us, who found the courage to go beyond protesting and petitioning. Hear their stories and find out why their strategies for organizing and solidarity are winning.
How do ordinary people find the strength to turn back big corporations? On every continent, popular movements have overturned repression and put the boots to bad businesses. Now it's our turn. It takes unity to block a pipeline. It takes a community to turn back an oil tanker.
How will we win? We are creative, determined, and compelled by a love of the land. The West Coast has a proud history of using peaceful action to defeat destructive corporations. Remember our history. Learn first-hand about the new ways we're bringing our diverse talents together to defend the land and water.

Memory,
Truth, and Justice in Guatemala
When: Friday, March 28, 2014, 7:30 PM
Where: 1923 Fernwood Dr., Victoria
Learn about historical memory and the struggles of today with Wendy Mendez,
founding member of HIJOS, sons and daughters of the disappeared in Guatemala.
Wendy came to Canada as a refugee after her mother was disappeared by the
Guatemalan military, then returned to spend the last nine years working for
truth and justice in Guatemala.
Wendy will share her own story and experiences with HIJOS in the trial of
ex-dictator Rios Montt and trace connections between past repression/genocide
and the neo-liberal economic interests of today, including mining projects.

Volunteering with Benefits: It’s about Time!
What: A silent auction event. The twist is that participants bid on items with volunteer hours instead of money. At last year's event, we raised over 1400 volunteer hours!
Why: Because volunteering is a great way to be a part of your community and we want to encourage people to find a volunteer opportunity that they are passionate about supporting.
