Last week at the St. Paddy’s Day Green Drinks we awarded our 2014 Staff and Student Sustainability Champion Awards. Congratulations to Sherri-Lynn Yazbeck and her team at UVic Child Care Services who won the staff award, and to Miranda Maslany who won the student award. Thanks to our winners and all of the other sustainability champions who work hard to make our campus a greener place to go to work and school!
The UVic Environmental Law Centre’s Mark Haddock’s research showing how inspections of forest operations in BC have declined dramatically in the past 10 years due to cutbacks by the province and how this is a threat to BC natural resources was featured in the media last week. See story in Vancouver Sun.
The Land Conservancy (TLC) is looking for volunteers this summer, May to August, one to three days per... week, to act as monitoring technicians on convenanted properties in the Victoria area. Volunteers are also needed to the 3rd annual Creatively United for the Planet Arts and Sustainability Festival (April 25th and 26th) that attracts over 5,000 people. See website to find out more.

LOVE A MUG WEEK!
Mar 21st to 25th, across campus
It's time to show the world you love your mug by bringing your reusable mug EVERYTIME you purchase a hot drink on campus. Watch for volunteers handing out special prizes and taking photos of those with mugs. See

CAMPUS WASTE AUDIT
Mar 28th, Sorting tent set up in the Quad
UVic staff and volunteers with the help of Waste Management’s Green Squad will be sorting through trash collected at 19 locations across campus to find out exactly what we are tossing out – how much could have been recycled or composted. From Monday to Thursday waste will be collected, then brought to the sorting tent on Friday, Mar 28th. Stop by with your questions about UVic’s waste reduction initiatives.
NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION ON VOTER SUPPRESSION
Mar 25th, Conservative MP Offices and other local events
Events across Canada against passage of the federal Conservatives new election legislation that raises campaign spending limites for big money donors and
makes it harder for youth, low-income and Aboriginal people vote. Local event is at Victoria NDP MP Murray Rankin's office at noon. See
