Dear Paov,
There’s an exciting plan in the works to protect ocean life on the north and central coast of BC, and now is your chance to be part of it.
The governments of Canada, BC and coastal Indigenous nations recently released a plan to protect this special coastal region – also known as the Northern Shelf Bioregion, or the Great Bear Sea – through a network of marine protected areas (MPAs). This will be the first MPA network in Canada, and after years of collaborative planning, the governments are now seeking feedback from the public.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to establish lasting legal protections for ocean wildlife and sensitive ecosystems in the region.

The MPA network will help address declines in marine life on the Pacific coast, protecting habitat for fish and other species we cherish and rely on – like herring, salmon and whales. However, opposition to this plan from industry and commercial resource sectors could hold up the process and delay the vital protection that coastal ecosystems need now. That’s why we’re asking you to take action today. Please send a letter to the MPA Network Team to let you know you support a strong, well-managed MPA network. Send a letter Let’s show decision-makers that we care about ensuring a healthy future for the Great Bear Sea – by advancing the plan for Canada’s first MPA network.
For the coast,
