Dear Paov,
Last week, I sent you an email uncovering the legal and financial risks of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion (TMX) – with the total cost of this distressing project now increasing to $21.4 billion.
As a supporter, we know you believe in the work of West Coast and care about the environment. That is why we reached out with this new analysis that confirms that we are being lied to about how much debt the Trans Mountain Corporation is accumulating in this project.
HOLD DECISION MAKERS ACCOUNTABLE
In case you haven’t had the chance to read the report we released recently – accompanied by a short explanation video – we revealed how the government used accounting magic and corporate shells to hide Trans Mountain’s losses, and how they are preparing to make $17 billion in debt disappear in order to maintain the illusion that this project is commercially viable.
Paov, if you are a Canadian taxpayer, then you have become an owner of the Trans Mountain pipeline project and its debts – unwillingly.
You might want to know:
- Is Trans Mountain profitable and commercially viable?
- Will the debt owed to Canadians be repaid?
- Will there be a return on the investment available to fund a transition off fossil fuels?
- And will this project respect Indigenous rights?

Public money is being wasted on a project that threatens the environment, climate and Indigenous rights. That’s why we need you to join us to build collective power and a more sustainable future for us all.
RAISE THE ALARM ON TMX
Your donation today will:
- Allow our lawyers to continue to serve the communities and Indigenous nations opposing the TMX pipeline and tankers project and hold government and corporations accountable for this risky boondoggle
- Allow us to perform due diligence for the public in the face of a federal government that has been lacking transparency since it purchased TMX
- Allow West Coast Environmental Law to continue to act as a legal watchdog of TMX and similar projects, and to inform the public about its rising costs being hidden away
Please consider making a tax-deductible gift today to help us keep raising the alarm about projects like TMX and protect the environment for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Eugene Kung
