On Earth Week, we want to highlight the courage and tenacity of youth, elders, Indigenous nations, and community members all over BC and Canada who are speaking up for the environment and their communities, both inside and outside the courts – from Gitxaała Nation’s landmark legal action for mining justice in BC, to communities mobilizing to hold polluters accountable through climate litigation.
Witnessing all the different ways people are stepping up to protect the planet in their own ways inspires us to keep up our work at West Coast. Read on to learn more about some powerful legal efforts to heal nature and pursue justice.

The independent Human Rights Commissioner intervened in the Gitxaala Nation and Ehattesaht First Nation's cases challenging the Province's registration of mineral claims on their territories with no prior consultation.
