Two critical climate rallies across Canada

Hi Paov,

After a summer of brutal wildfires, it’s never been more important to show governments we need to stand up to Big Oil. It’s been a few years since the global community gathered en masse to demand climate justice from our governments. Let’s remind lawmakers they must use their power to limit this crisis.

All across Canada and around the world, people will hit the streets this September for the global march to end fossil fuels. We know climate disasters only get worse until we stop burning coal, oil and gas. Join us in Victoria, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Toronto — or wherever you live!

It’s time to issue a public demand to phase out fossil fuels loud enough for the federal government to put a strong cap on oil and gas emissions this fall. In the meantime, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet is also deciding on a key component of climate justice — extending permanent residency and the rights it affords to all migrants living in Canada.

Our friends at the Migrant Rights Network are also hosting a nation-wide #StatusForAll action that weekend. We’ve seen the impact of climate disasters on migrants when their immigration status is tied to their employment, with agricultural workers forced to labour outside in punishing heat and dangerous smoke because if they refuse they could be sent home. Let’s join these folks on Sunday, Sept. 17 to demand everyone living in Canada enjoy the same rights.

Hope to see you out for both of these interconnected rallies. We must end fossil fuel extraction to prevent climate disasters from getting worse and at the same time we must grant people the rights they need to stay safe from extreme weather. Look for us out there!

For the climate,
