Dear Paov,
One would think the provincial government would be concerned that its CleanBC climate plan has a fatal flaw, no? But apparently elected representatives and public servants alike seem convinced their new energy framework solves all its problems.
The truth: liquefied natural gas (LNG) will prevent B.C. from following through on its climate commitments. That is unless you and I stop it.
Our new report CleanBC or Fossil Fuels shows the province’s climate plan doesn’t prevent LNG from derailing all the work we’re doing to reduce carbon emissions.
Tens of thousands of new fracking wells in the northeast of the province would be required to fill the five LNG terminals proposed for the west coast — three of which already have all the permits they need to start construction. All that fossil fuel extraction... means decades of pollution, making climate disasters like the ones we’ve seen across the province in recent years even worse.
Call on the BC NDP government to reject new LNG permits, stop issuing permits for new fracking wells, and begin a just transition for northern workers or communities.

The whole world agreed to transition away from fossil fuels at the COP28 climate talks — building a brand new LNG industry and expanding fracking is a bet against that promise. It’s a grave betrayal of the people losing their homes and lives to climate disasters here in B.C., across Canada and around the world.
