Over the next two months, we're rebuilding a power movement for public health care - one conversation at a time. Are you ready to join us?

We're calling on supporters of public health care across the province to organize small group conversations - also called house meetings - with people in your networks.

These conversations help to unearth stories that call for change. They're also a way of meeting lots of concerned citizens who are prepared to put some energy towards making that change happen.

We're hosting an online training so you can lean more be confident about taking part in this effort.

"How to Lead a House Meeting" Training

This one-hour... training will equip you to plan, organize, and lead a House Meeting as part of the BC Health Coalition's Listening Campaign.

A House Meeting is a group of 6-10 people invited to have an intentional conversation in a comfortable setting. These may be virtual meetings, in people’s homes, or set up in table groups/breakout rooms at a larger venue so that many house meetings can occur at the same time. The purposes of a house meeting are to:

  • Unearth stories that call for change
  • Build relationships of trust and understanding
  • Connect with community leaders who have appetite for action
  • Identify issues of common concern to inform campaign priorities

In our training, we'll cover everything about organizing house meetings, from thinking through the logistics, making invitations, team roles, leading the conversation, reporting-back, and setting up the next step in the organizing cycle.

Feel free to bring your lunch, but keep in mind that there will be an interactive role play about halfway through.

Please note the training will be recorded and shared on our website as a resource for our membership.

What happens next?

Throughout the Listening Campaign season, we'll be collecting stories and themes that emerge in House Meetings. These will be presented back to our membership - and any Listening Campaign participant - at an Action Planning Townhall on April 25th. The Townhall is a participatory democracy exercise where we'll hear from the public about whether what came up in our listening campaign resonates and see if we've missed anything major. Everyone will get a chance to identify which issues are a priority by identifying where they want to put their time and energy.

Priorities identified through the Listening Campaign will shape our Vision for BC Health Care Platform, a resource on public health care solutions we will develop in advance of our provincial election. We'll also be building on the Listening Campaign by offering organizing workshops to local groups who express interest in building campaigns and actions in their communities.
