Ontario needs a plan to protect more nature
Hi Paov,
Over the past year, our brand new video series — Whatever’s Wild — took you through some of our most important campaign updates. Hosted by our very own Campaign Assistant Cedar George-Parker, the series dove deep into the issues facing old-growth forests, climate and LNG targets, spotted owls and at-risk species, highlighting the efforts taken to address these environmental hot topics.
As the year draws to a close, we’ve got another great episode of Whatever’s Wild for you. This time, from the most populated province in Canada, Ontario! In this episode, Cedar sits down with our Ontario Campaigner Katie... Krelove to talk about conservation in the province.
In 2022, governments across the world — including Canada — embraced the goal to protect 30 per cent of lands and waters by 2030 (30x30). However, at the provincial level, there are leaders and laggards, and Doug Ford’s government in Ontario is definitely the latter.
Ontario is a massive province with a huge array of ecosystem types, varied biodiversity and dozens of First Nations developing plans to protect lands and waters. But Premier Ford continues to bury his head in the sand on conservation, and his government’s goals and policies range from inadequate to non-existent.
In this episode, Katie and Cedar break down the Ford government's weak policies and lack of ambition, and highlight how protecting old-growth forests, biodiversity hotspots and honouring Indigenous-led conservation can get Ontario back on track.
As always, your support drives our work. Your participation in our campaigns, events and calls to action allows campaigners like Katie, and our whole organization, to fight for the change we need in this world.
We hope you enjoy this latest episode of our Whatever’s Wild series!
