Speak up for the spotted owl
Hi Paov,
The diminutive, endangered spotted owl is taking on a massive ski resort scheme in one of the most uneven battles of 2025. The spotted owl can’t win without us — it needs you!
A private company is trying to get permission from the B.C. government to construct the big, sprawling Bridal Veil Mountain Resort (BVMR) near Chilliwack, B.C.
Here’s the strange... part. The proposed site for the resort is atop the same protected spotted owl habitat designated by the B.C. government back in 2011 to support the recovery of the highly endangered owl population. Yet, there is no mention of that protected area on their public comment page.

What's also mystifying is that the proposal lands on federally-mapped spotted owl critical habitat. Say what?
And even more perplexing, this proposal is highly unpopular — from the District of Kent and the neighbouring city of Chilliwack, to the Cheam First Nation and local community groups, all are on record as opposed to this proposal.
You and I know spotted owls don’t need a ski resort to recover, they just need protected habitat. Please join me today and tell the government NO WAY to this proposal.
With you in the ring, the spotted owl has a fighting chance. Thanks for your support.
