BC Health Coalition: LifeLabs needs our support

NationBuilder r1

Hi Paov,

My name is Cheryl Cameron, the Lead Organizer at the Coalition. If we have not yet had a chance to meet, I really hope you'll join us on a call next week so we can get acquainted!

We're working to engage people on issues affecting public health care, and I'm looking to you to share your wisdom and experience. In particular, there's an upcoming action in Victoria I'd love you to participate in. If you haven't heard about the situation at LifeLabs, I hope you'll join us to learn about what's happening.

Canadian regulations regarding mergers and acquisitions have been weakened over time via trade deals, so much so that we've allowed a U.S.-based multinational to take over the vast majority of diagnostics testing in B.C..

Quest Diagnostics, the multi billion-dollar U.S. corporation, took over LifeLabs in August, giving control of what should be a publicly funded and monitored resource to a profit seeking multinational. Working conditions for staff have drastically deteriorated. Quest is... prioritizing profit over patient care, a situation that can have serious consequences. And they're doing it with OUR public funds - $300 million a year.

The BC Health Coalition is planning solidarity actions to support LifeLabs job action in locations around the province, and we'd love you to be with us!

The Victoria event will happen the week after next, details to come. The public event will include speakers, patient and worker testimonials, and visuals to attract media attention. This final action in the series should be the best-attended, and generate the most attention for the plight of striking LifeLabs workers.

To discuss this, and other public health care-related issues, please join a planning call on Tuesday morning, April 8 at 11:00 AM.

We'll have an informative discussion about what's at stake for LifeLabs workers, and why we should all be concerned -- for the well-being of patients, sustainable working conditions for health care technicians, and for confidentiality of patient medical records and personal data.

RSVP for the planning call here

Looking forward to meeting you on the call!

Cheryl
