The opening night ceremony will begin at 7 pm with the formal program lasting no more than 30 minutes. Coffee and tea are offered to all guests, and the café will be open for those who wish a light snack. Guests are free to arrive as early as 6:30 pm to peruse the exhibition.

CJPME's mission is to empower Canadians to promote justice, development and peace in the Middle East. It is a grassroots-based, secular, non-partisan organization with 45,000 adherents nation-wide, and active branches in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, London, Hamilton, Victoria and Edmonton.

The exhibition, produced by the CJPME Foundation, features over 120 visually compelling photos taken by both professional and amateur photographers at pivotal moments of indigenous peoples' struggles in South Africa, Palestine and Canada. Photos spanning 150 years of history -- from the very earliest days of photography in all three areas -- form part of this exhibition. The exhibition is both moving and inspirational, and provides fresh insights into the histories of the indigenous struggles addressed.

The exhibition's South African segment includes photos by internationally renowned photographers Eli Weinberg, Pulitzer prize-winner Greg Marinovich, David Goldblatt, Themba Nkosi, Mike Mzileni, and Sam Nzima, who incurred the wrath of South Africa's security police when his Soweto massacre photos flashed around the world in 1976. That segment has been produced in close collaboration with UWT-Robben Island Mayibuye Archives, University of Cape Town Libraries and Museum Africa, who were eager to share images of the inspiring struggle against apartheid.

The Canadian segment includes many rarely seen images, some of them haunting, of Indigenous life in the late 1800s and early 1900s, of the controversial residential schools system, and of more recent confrontations over land claims, resource extraction projects and fishing rights.

The Palestinian segment includes many photos never before exhibited in Canada, covering 120 years of Palestinian history. Assembled with the help of scholars Elias Sanbar and Walid Khalidi, while also drawing from UN archives, ActiveStills, and the US Library of Congress's Matson Collection, they reveal oft-forgotten aspects of Palestinians' history.

All three segments of the exhibition have been developed in close consultation with recognized academic specialists in the three respective geographical areas covered.

We hope that you will be able to take advantage of the opportunity to view this extraordinary exhibition. Hope to see you there!

Kindest regards,

Thomas Woodley
