Defend our Climate - March for an Oil-free Coast on May 10th!

Defend Our Climate poster

Hi Michael,

One of our top priorities at the Wilderness Committee is fighting to stop one of the world’s most pressing environmental concerns: runaway climate change.

We work hard to spread the word about the causes of climate change and how we can – and must – reject risky pipeline proposals, reduce our carbon emissions, keep more of our forests standing and take other steps to mitigate our impact on the climate.

Now, it’s time to take to the streets and make our voices heard – and that’s where you come in!

Join us for a march and rally next Saturday, May 10th, as we stand up to Defend Our Climate. As part of a cross-Canada National Day of Action, the Victoria event will feature a family gathering, a march, a rally and a breakout discussion session to help you coordinate with like-minded individuals and initiatives.

This summer is going to be a big one – the federal government is expected to make a decision on the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline in June, so right now is a critical time to show that opposition to tar sands pipelines and tankers on this coast has never been stronger!

Details:

Defend Our Climate: March for an Oil-free Coast
Saturday, May 10

12:30 pm – Music in the park at Beacon Hill Park Bandshell
1:45 – March to the BC Legislature
2:30 – Rally
3:30 – Discussion + Organizing Sessions (James Bay School Community Center, 140 Oswego St.)

This will be a fun and inspiring day of action, when we’ll stand together with folks across the community and across the country against the destructive pipelines and tankers that threaten to accelerate climate change and devastate BC's coast with an oil spill.

In the next week and a half, you can help out by joining, sharing, and inviting your friends to the event on Facebook.

Plus – for you artistic folks, a pre-rally community art day is happening this Saturday, May 3rd. Join a crew of volunteer organizers to make signs and props that will help make the May 10th march a spectacle! Check out the Facebook group here.

I know that if we work together, we can stop the Northern Gateway and Kinder Morgan pipelines, and other fossil fuel exports that put the coast and our climate at risk.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you out on May 10th to be a part of this.

For a clean coast and healthy climate,
