¡Ya Basta, fossil fuels!
Right now, the stakes couldn't be higher for humanity and Mother Earth, comrades. Plumes of carbon and clouds of tear gas block out the sun; but resistance burns bright. Amidst oppression and ecological tragedy, mass movements have arisen to the challenge of creating another world. Change won't come from above. This September as world leaders gather for a climate summit in New York, System Change Not Climate Change and our allies are working to build a summit of our own. Join us as we work to reconfigure the struggle for a just and sustainable planet on radical foundations and present a real alternative to profit fueled climate chaos. This week at SystemChangeNotClimateChange.org: Sit-ins, mass marches, spy games, lawsuits, baklavas and more!
Climate change and socialists
It's been a busy week at System Change Not Climate Change. Employees of America's largest fast food chain staged a mass sit-in at McDonald's headquarters. As we note, McDonald's doesn't just create a toxic work environment but a toxic environment, as well.
Speaking of toxic environments, millions marched against Monsanto over the weekend. Renowned food justice activist Vandana Shiva notes in a statement of solidarity that “Monsanto [has] used its money to undermine the Right of US citizens to Know what they eat.”
We might not know if GMOs are on our plates but one thing is for sure: Big Brother is watching.
Newly published documents reveal the extent to which the government and private security contractors spied on activists during the hay-day of the Occupy movement, including 350.org's Bill McKibben.
Against death, we demand life.
Against silence, we demand the word and respect.
Against oblivion, memory.
Against humiliation and contempt, dignity.
Against oppression and transgression
Against slavery, freedom. . .

Subcomandante Marcos

With fracking on the rise, the term extractivism has become a buzz word but Federico Fuentes argues the expression presents reductionist pitfalls for those seeking to understand the complexities of imperialism in Latin America.
Brazilians combatting imperialism are refusing to be extracted from the protest encampment they have established near the central FIFA stadium ahead of the World Cup.
Meanwhile, in the autonomous zone the indigenous peoples of the Chiapas have carved out, their spokesperson says he no longer exists. Leonidas Oikonomakis details the logic behind Subcomandante Marcos's decision to adopt the nom de guerre of a fallen comrade.
FORWARD WIDELY AND MARCH WIDELY FORWARD.
