NEWS

Robert Gifford from UVIC Environmental Studies and Psychology was one of four experts to weigh in on a recent Globe and Mail article talking about the power of ‘cool’ in environmental action. Has the concept of sustainability suffered in its style factor?

CBC Radio featured Richard Hebda, faculty in the UVic Department of Biology and author of the book “A Field Guide to Edible Fruits and Berries of the Pacific Northwest”, talking about edible treats that can be found in BC. Listen to the interview online and take part in the phenomenon of foraging!

A recent report written by law student Sam Harrison from the UVic Environmental Law Centre on behalf of the Wuikinuxv Nation found that the federal government is putting the health of... wild salmon stocks at risk by failing to release key data on coastal fish farms despite evidence of numerous disease outbreaks. The report claims that detailed information on the timing and location of these outbreaks should be made public in order to inform policy decisions. Check out the article in the Times Colonist.

Some exciting news has come in from UVic Printing Services recently: they have now officially switched to using wheat paper in their printing. Wheat paper produces 40% less carbon emissions than traditional wood papers. Compared to conventional paper, one box of paper conserves an entire tree, meaning Printing Services will conserve 600 trees per year! Find out more from the Printing Services website.

Every Tuesday at 12:30 the Campus Community Garden holds group meditation sessions in the garden. Join Miranda and others from the garden to de-stress in a beautiful surrounding.
