Most Canadians want to see a change in government, but our broken electoral system could give the Conservatives another majority - even with fewer votes than last time.
Help stop another Harper majority by chipping in to our people-powered election campaign to defeat the Harper Conservatives and move Canada forward.
Have you seen the latest polls? Most Canadians have rated the Conservatives’ performance as ‘poor’ or ‘very poor,’ and most say that the country is ‘going in the wrong direction.’ [1]
However, new polls show that the Harper Conservatives would win if an election were held today[2]. In fact, because of our broken electoral system, they could still win a majority in the next election - even if... they get fewer votes than last time.[3]
How? They have four big advantages:
-
The first-past-the-post system splits the opposition’s vote.
-
The Conservatives benefit the most from the 30 new ridings that have been created since the last election.[4]
-
They are going to use two laws, the misleadingly labeled “Fair Elections Act” and “Citizen Voting Act” - to suppress the votes of thousands of Canadians likely to vote NDP, Liberal and Green: young people, Indigenous people, low-income people and Canadians living abroad.[5,6]
-
They have the biggest election war chest of all the parties, and they’ll use their impressive ground organizing to do better than anyone expects on election day.[7]
That’s why we have to work together to win. Our election campaign is uniting thousands of people, including many people who have never voted before, in key ridings to defeat Conservative candidates and make sure we do not wake up the day after the next election to another Conservative majority.
Will you support our people powered election campaign by donating $5, $10 or $20 today?
The campaign is not about throwing all of our support behind any one party, it’s about voting together for the best candidate who can defeat the Conservatives in their riding. Depending on the riding, that candidate could be NDP, Liberal, Green or Independent.
For the campaign to succeed we need to work together create big groups of voters in key ridings across the country - and give them the information they need to vote together effectively.
We will have to pay for organizers, polling information, phone banking lines, canvassing materials, web infrastructure and more.
Our ability to work in ridings across the country - and therefore our ability to stop Harper from getting another majority - will depend on how much money we can raise.
The majority of our funding comes from small donors like yourselves who donate as little as $5 at a time. Your donations will determine whether we can work in 2 ridings, 6 ridings, 20 ridings or more.
