Dear RAVENers,
We made it through the six weeks of darkness! Now we’ve got two big news items for you to lighten your spirits even more.
GRRROWD! AN EXCITING NEW CAMPAIGN FOR BEAVER LAKE CREE NATION
On Monday, March 2, RAVEN launched a Grrrowd.org campaign for Beaver Lake Cree Nation, who are still engaged in their court challenge to stop the expansion of the tar sands developments into their traditional territories. Click here to watch the video & learn more about this international effort.
They won the right to go to trial, and need the funds to get there. Grrrowd is the new crowdfunding platform, based in Holland, where caring citizens from all over the world can support landmark “David versus Goliath” cases in defence of social, environmental and economic rights.
We’re committed to support the Beaver Lake Cree. But we cannot do this alone. We really need your help to get the larger global audience to get behind this Grrrowd campaign.
Therefore, we kindly request you help in the following ways:
- We’re wanting to launch this with a bang, so we’re using Thunderclap to extend our social reach : please CLICK HERE to add your voice and amplify our campaign. We need a minimum of 100 people – more is great! – to create a massive wave of energy.
- Share this post on Facebook! http://raventrust.com/2015/02/27/new-grrrowd-crowdfunding-campaign-launched/
- Send a Tweet ~ here's a sample: “Beaver Lake Cree are in court fighting Canada’s tar sands. Help win this landmark case: donate now! #grrrowd4TarSandsTrial http://bit.ly/1aeIGAF“
It’s time the world knew what was happening on the frontlines of climate justice in Canada, and to give everyone a chance to help be part of the solution.
Crowdfunding this campaign successfully and winning this legal case will be of vital importance, because if you breathe air, or you drink water, the outcome will affect you. Success in this case would mean that it would become much harder, if not impossible to expand tar sands projects over the objections of Beaver Lake and other First Nations in the region.
PULL TOGETHER Part II (aka The Endbpire Strikes Back)
Join us March 24th at the York Theatre in Vancouver for an evening with Sarah Harmer & friends. You are invited to celebrate the fabulous relaunch of the campaign that gives BC’s First Nations the best chance of stopping the Northern Gateway pipeline and tanker project.
March 24, 2015 is a sobering anniversary. In 1989, the Exxon Valdez ran aground in Prince William Sound, Alaska, spilling 257,000 barrels of crude oil, devastating both the economy and ecology of the area. Twenty-six years later, the herring fishery hasn’t recovered and oil still contaminates the beaches.
This year, on March 24, let’s dance for a future without oil tankers on our coast and without the threat of devastating spills. RAVEN and Sierra Club BC are holding a Pull Together benefit concert at the York Theatre in Vancouver, with proceeds supporting First Nations legal challenges against the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline and tankers proposal.
The evening features celebrated Canadian musician Sarah Harmer. Sarah is bringing her passionate songs, commitment to environmental activism, and solidarity all the way from frozen Toronto to light up the evening. She'll be joined by Hugh Christopher Brown of Toronto's Citizen Band, the sensational Git Hayetsk traditional dancers from Northwest Coast Nations, plus Haida/Cree alt/folk artist Kristi Lane Sinclair. A Coast Salish welcome, short film and brief speeches from leaders of Coastal First Nations will round what promises to be an inspiring and fun evening.
Tickets are $24 ~ $44 ~ and ~ $94. This is a fundraiser, so if you want to treat yourself, the premium tickets not only score you the best seats in the house but an invite to a pre-show reception with the artists, speakers, and event hosts with first crack at our epic silent auction featuring a range of awesome items.

Last fall we were so inspired by the diversity of people stepping up to support these nations: 87 community events, 37 businesses and more than 3,300 donors. (You can read about what an amazing ride it was here.) Pull Together has already raised almost $350,000 to support First Nations legal challenges!
That sounds like a lot, but stopping Enbridge will require more. They and the federal government have deep pockets and will use every means at their disposal to win in court. Visit the www.pull-together.ca website to find out how you can donate, organize, and fundraise online.
Recently, the Gitga’at Nation joined Pull Together, so funds raised now go to support seven Nations: Gitga’at, Gitxaala, Haida, Heiltsuk, Kitasoo-Xai’xais, Nadleh Whut’en and Nak’azdli. Representatives from many of these nations will be at the York Theatre on March 24th, speaking about why they are in court to stop the Enbridge pipeline and tankers.
A NOTE ON SILENT AUCTION: We welcome more treasures, gift certificates, and art items to include, and welcome your contributions! Contact Jen Castro This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Please don’t hesitate to call or email if you have questions. Thank you - your help means a lot!
