Paov -- On Tuesday, people across the country rallied to mark the one year anniversary of the expiration of the Canada Health Accord, a cornerstone of our public health care system. In BC, from Fort St John to Vancouver, Nelson to Nanaimo, people called for federal leadership on health care outside hospitals and MPs offices [1].
It was inspiring to see hundreds standing up for public and universal health care.
Now, let’s build on this momentum. The federal parties are in the midst of drafting their campaign platforms for this year’s federal election, and they need to hear that we want a federal government who will lead on health care.
In 2014, the current federal government allowed the health accord to expire. In addition, they plan to cut $36 billion from health care funding to the provinces after the next election.
On Tuesday, more than 25 BC communities stood against these cuts. Let's take the next step to ensure we get federal leadership on health care.
The BC Health Coalition is running a vote pledge campaign to build a huge block of health care voters in the 2015 election. This will push federal parties to include health care in their platforms, and will help us to mobilize voters who care about health care.
If enough of us commit to vote for public health care, we can elect a government that will strengthen health care, not make deep cuts and let inequality grow.
Will you pledge to vote for public health care?
We’ll report back to pledge signers with an evaluation of where each party stands on key health care issues - giving you the information you need to help vote for representatives who will prioritize accessible public health care.
Together, we can elect a federal government who will show leadership when it comes to health care challenges.
With gratitude,
