In 2011 I didn't know who was Prime Minister.

Hi PAOV,
My name is Cameron MacLeod. I’m part of the comedy writing team at SHD. I’ve made a short video about myself if you’re interested in learning a little bit more about me.
I first got involved in comedy through drama class in high school, as it usually goes. After graduating from the Theatre program at Douglas College I moved to Vancouver where I tried my hand in the comedy scene. I’ve now been performing as a sketch comedian and improviser for ten years. I was also the comedy curator for Vancouver's OLIO Festival which ran for 4 years. I currently produce 3 live monthly shows and bartend to make ends meet. Over the years I’ve learned that comedy is an amazing way to bring people together.
I’ve been a part of SHD since we made our very first videos during the 2011 election. At the time I wasn’t involved in politics at all. Like, I didn’t even know who was in power and I didn’t care because I thought I had no control over it. Since then I’ve seen our little joke project turn into something that has consistently sparked political conversations in new social circles. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that a joke I write is being laughed at and shared by thousands of people across the country I will never meet.
This week has been an infuriating one. Two years ago the Conservatives closed a coast guard station in Vancouver. That very station could have responded to last week’s oil spill in six minutes. Instead it took six hours. Now most of Vancouver’s beaches are closed to the public and a fishing ban has been put in place. Here’s a list of 9 ridiculous things the Conservatives could have cut instead of the coast guard station.
I really want this government to go. Don’t you? In the past few weeks more than 360 people have chipped in to help us counter the Conservative election strategy. We’re now 53% of the way to our goal! Every donation, big or small helps our team of artists, activists and comedians spend a little less time doing stuff like bartending and little more time using our creativity to engage our peers in politics.
If you haven’t yet, please check out our plan and consider contributing.
With hope,
