Volunteers to Contact Candidates Needed!

The federal election could be upon us anytime, and we want Canadians to know where each candidate stands on proportional representation. To make every vote count in Canada, we need to elect 170 MPs (a majority) committed to passing proportional representation into law.

We can do it.

The last four years of our 39% majority have made clear to many Canadians that we need a fair, proportional voting system to better represent us. With the NDP and Green Party firmly on board with implementing a more proportional system, and the Liberals with many MPs in favour and committed to a study of the issue, we’ve never been this close before.

But we need your help. With a huge grassroots effort to canvass candidates and inform voters, we can Make 2015 the Last Winner-Take-All Election.

Already, over 500 of you from 182 ridings have volunteered to find out where the candidates in your riding stand on PR. Amazing! Thank you!

Find below this message a list of the ridings where we still need volunteers. If you can help, please sign up at volunteer.fairvote.ca. (If for some reason this link does not work, please type volunteer.fairvote.ca directly into your address bar).

Even if your riding is not on the list below, if you can help, please sign up - chances are there’s another volunteer in your riding who could use some company. We need to make proportional representation an issue the candidates hear again and again from constituents.

In many cases, it’s been a personal visit from a constituent about PR that has changed a candidate’s mind on the issue, or given him/her the information to confidently raise it during their campaign.

When you sign up we’ll provide you with the questions to ask the candidates, background information, and whatever support you need.

L'élection fédérale pourrait être sur nous à tout moment, et nous voulons que les Canadiens sachent où chaque candidat se positionne sur la représentation proportionnelle. Pour faire que chaque vote compte au Canada, nous devons élire 170 députés (une majorité) engagés à faire passer la représentation proportionnelle dans la loi.

Nous pouvons le faire. Les quatre dernières années de notre majorité de 39% ont mis en évidence pour de nombreux Canadiens que nous avons besoin d'un système électoral équitable et proportionnel pour mieux représenter tous les Canadiens. Avec deux partis fermement à bord dans l’effort de mettre en œuvre un système plus proportionnel, et un autre avec de nombreux députés en faveur et engagés à une étude de la question, nous n’avons jamais été aussi près du but.

Mais nous avons besoin de votre aide. Avec un effort populaire énorme pour sonder les candidats et informer les électeurs, nous pouvons Faire de 2015 la Dernière Élection « Gagnant-Rafle-Tout ».

Vous trouverez ci-dessous une liste des circonscriptions où nous avons toujours besoin de volontaires. Si vous pouvez aider, veuillez vous inscrire à volunteer.fairvote.ca.

Même si votre circonscription n’est pas dans cette liste et que vous pouvez aider, inscrivez-vous quand même - les chances sont qu’il y a un autre volontaire dans votre circonscription qui pourrait avoir besoin de compagnie. Nous devons faire de la représentation proportionnelle une question que les candidats entendent encore et encore des constituants.

Dans des nombreux cas, cela a été une visite personnelle d'un constituant à propos de la RP qui a changé la position d'un candidat sur la question, ou ça lui a donné les informations pour la soulever avec assurance pendant sa campagne.

Quand vous vous inscrirez, nous vous fournirons les questions à poser aux candidats, des informations de fond, et tout support dont vous pouvez avoir besoin.

Sur une autre note, avez-vous une expérience directe de la représentation proportionnelle d'un autre pays ?

Êtes-vous un Canadien qui a vécu et a voté dans un pays qui utilise avec succès la représentation proportionnelle, comme la Suède, la Norvège, l'Ecosse, la Nouvelle-Zélande, l'Allemagne, etc. ? Seriez-vous prêt à parler un peu de cette expérience à vos concitoyens comparativement à voter avec le mode de scrutin majoritaire uninominal à un tour au Canada, et pourquoi vous pensez que nous devrions choisir un système plus proportionnel ?
