[evoz] This Saturday Picnic & Rally 4 Caravan to Cuba @ Peace Arch Park (Eng/Esp)

Hello Victoria friends!I hope you are all well.
This Saturday June 27, the Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba is leaving Vancouver, crossing the U.S./Canada border to begin its journey down to Cuba! It would be great if you could join us at Peace Arch Park for the border crossing this year. As you know, and some of you were there, at the border crossing 3 years ago all of the aid was stopped at the border and was only allowed through after 24hrs of protesting and a big media campaign. We need your support again this year! I will be arranging a carpool from Victoria to Vancouver so if you would like to join us but need a ride please email or call me and we can arrange it.The email announcement for the border crossing is below.

LET'S BREAK THE U.S. BLOCKADE ON CUBA!

December 17, 2014 was a historic day, US President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro both announced the first steps towards restablishing diplomatic ties between the US and Cuba after over 50 years of US hostility towards Cuba. However, despite ongoing negotiations and some important steps forward, the US government is still refusing to lift its cruel and inhuman blockade against Cuba.

The Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba is a U.S.-based Cuba solidarity project that each summer brings humanitarian aid and U.S. citizens to Cuba to challenge the U.S. Blockade and travel ban against Cuba.

Cuba solidarity organizations across Canada have supported the Caravan since the beginning over two decades ago. Cuba solidarity activists and Caravan supporters from across British Columbia and Washington State will once again join the Caravan by supporting the border crossing at Peace Arch Park. We will be bringing humanitarian aid and Caravan participants across the U.S/Canada border on route to Cuba!

The Peace Arch border crossing has been the scene of several important recent victories against the U.S. Blockade on Cuba. Notably, the 2012 border crossing became an international event when U.S. border officials repeatedly attempted to deny our humanitarian aid from crossing the border. However, by launching an emergency media campaign, legal challenge and extended demonstration on both sides of the border we forced them to allow the aid through. We need a strong presence at the border to ensure our humanitarian aid will cross again this year!

>> Rain or Shine!

>> The event will include a potluck lunch (please bring a dish to share if you can!)

WHAT IS THE PASTORS FOR PEACE CARAVAN TO CUBA? This summer for the 26th time, the Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan to Cuba will challenge the United States government’s economic and travel blockade on Cuba, that has been imposed on the Cuban people for over 50 years.

The Caravan will travel through up to 100 cities in the U.S. and Canada, raising awareness about the U.S. blockade and gathering humanitarian aid to take to Cuba. After two weeks of travelling through the U.S. there is a blockade busting border crossing into Mexico. Caravanistas will then travel through Mexico and depart for nine days in Cuba, participating in a variety of educational and cultural events.

Over the past 25 Caravans thousands of participants and over 30,000 tons of humanitarian aid have been brought to Cuba, building a ‘people-to-people’ foreign policy based on mutual respect, solidarity and friendship between the people of the U.S., Canada and Cuba.
