Touring the Salish Sea to talk climate solutions and oil spills
Hi PAOV,
If I told you there is a Nation that is almost entirely powered by solar energy, would you believe me? What if I told you this Nation just happens to sit on the shores of the Salish Sea?
The T’Sou-ke First Nation on Vancouver Island, BC now generates the vast majority of its energy needs from solar.
The T’Sou-ke and other innovative communities were the inspiration behind the Salish Sea Tour, a climate-friendly journey to six locations along the Salish Sea. Join us!
We’re embarking on this epic solar-powered catamaran tour with Tanker Free BC and mariner Simon Fawkes. The goal is to celebrate the Salish Sea, discuss how communities can take action to protect our shared waters and share stories of how folks are already taking on the challenge of climate change locally.
The route we have chosen is the same route where Kinder Morgan plans to send its tar sands tankers. Those ships would join new coal and gas shipments to create a fossil fuel armada just off the BC coast!
What stands in the way are the communities working to protect the Salish Sea – and that includes you!
The tour begins July 4th with a ceremony on Tsleil-Waututh First Nation territory. Right after the launch, we'll be heading towards English Bay to join up with the We > Tar Sands rally at Vancouver's Sunset Beach.
At each stop on the tour, we’re inviting members of the public to check out the boat, visit our info booth and enjoy live music from talented local artist Luke Wallace. There are also evening events planned on Salt Spring Island, Pender Island and in Victoria – featuring music, storytelling and discussion.
We hope you can join us at any of the following locations:
Whey-ah-Wichen/Cates Park (Launch)North Vancouver
Saturday, July 4th | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Granville Island (Public Dock)
