Climate Action - Divest Victoria
July 23rd, 6pm at City Hall
Rally, Speakers, Music and Art
with Franke James (and many more)
With your help, July 23rd could be a momentous day for Victoria. Come rally at 6pm to urge Victoria City Council to move our money out of fossil fuel companies like Enbridge and Suncor, and to focus our municipal dollars on socially responsible investments.
Our mayor and council will be debating a motion on fossil fuel divestment that evening, and so we are gathering for a Climate Action Rally at 6pm at City Hall (right before the council meeting which starts at 7pm).
We have an amazing line up of speakers, including the award winning artist, author and activist, Franke James.
Franke has drawn inspiration from the Canadian government’s attempts to silence her criticism of the tar sands, and has taken the government to task for their pro-oil stance and their gagging of artists and scientists. She has been called, “a wicked thorn in Stephen Harper’s side” and a ‘troublesome artist.’ Find out more: www.frankejames.com/about/
Come be part of making history! Support the City of Victoria in choosing to fossil free investments. Join the rally at City Hall at 6pm.
WHEN:
Thursday, July 23rd at 6pm
WHERE:
Victoria City Hall
1 Centennial Sq, (corner of Pandora and Douglas)
Victoria, BC
Esquimalt and Songhees Territories
Also, please take a moment to sign the petition to Victoria City Council: http://www.victoriavoice.ca/divest_victoria
Please share the Divest Victoria Day of Action for Municipal Divestment event with your friends and family on Facebook! Tweet @DivestVictoria and use the hashtag #DivestVictoria and find out more about Divest Victoria: www.divestvictoria.org
Want to volunteer for the event or get involved with Divest Victoria in the future? Come out to our volunteer meeting on July 15th, 5pm at the Dock in Fan Tan Alley https://www.facebook.com/events/109462222729939/. Or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. The organizers of Divest Victoria respectfully acknowledge that we live and act on the current unceded territories of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. We also acknowledge all Nations impacted by tar sands destruction, and intend to seek reinvestment strategies acting with the direction and consideration of Indigenous communities.
