Mobilizing voices for the rainforest
Hi PAOV,
Our campaign to protect the legendary Walbran Valley is at a fever pitch. So far, logging company Teal Jones has received a permit for one cutblock in the heart of the Central Walbran, and they could start cutting at any moment.
The BC government – which grants logging permits and has the power to rescind them – is back in session, and yesterday we brought 5,376 postcards to the Premier at the BC Legislature.
The postcards were signed by British Columbians, and they demand that Premier Christy Clark halt logging in the Walbran Valley immediately.
We launched the action card initiative early in the summer, and in just a few short months our staff, canvass teams and grassroots network of volunteers reached thousands of British Columbians. We also hosted public forums and rallies, raised the profile of the area in the media and made constant visits to the Walbran Valley to document the massive trees and crystal clear streams that are so imminently threatened.
This campaign is far from over, and we need your help.
In the coming weeks and months we’ll continue to pressure the Premier and the Minister of Forests to listen to the 5,376 people who wrote them postcards – and the nearly 1,100 people who have written letters online.
We’ll continue to coordinate with other groups and activists to organize creative events and demonstrations to mobilize support for old-growth protection.
Most importantly, we’ll continue to get out into the Walbran – exploring the planned cutblocks and reporting back about any activity.
The Wilderness Committee's roots are in the pristine old-grown forests of BC, and we cannot stand idly by while our government prioritizes short-term economic gain over immeasurable ecological value.
This fight will cost us more than $10,000. Can you give now to help us make it happen?
We're going to make sure that the BC government knows how British Columbians feel about logging old-growth forest, and we need your support to do it.
Help us save the Walbran Valley by donating today.
We can stop Teal Jones and the irresponsible BC government if we stand shoulder to shoulder and speak up for what’s right: an end to old-growth logging, starting in the Walbran Valley.
For the forest,
