The Site-C Dam Campaign just got twice as impactful

The Site-C Dam Campaign just got twice as impactful r1 ...

The Join the Circle campaign just got twice as exciting!

Donors like you are making a difference! With the help of committed people like you from all over the country, $100,000 has been raised for Treaty 8 First Nation’s legal challenges to the Site C dam. Join the Circle has attracted people like David Suzuki, Holly Arntzen, and Caleb Behn, who have become Join the Circle fundraisers. Community groups are organizing parties, carwashes, and paddles: all to protect this precious area from being flooded forever.

The goal is $250,000, so there is still work to do.

Now, thanks to a generous anonymous donor, every dollar you donate will be matched up to $10K - doubling your impact!

Fighting this in the Courts: When the Federal Court moved to dismiss Treaty 8’s application for a judicial review last month, the Nations resolved to fight back. Now, West Moberly and Prophet River First Nations have announced that they will appeal the decision.

These Treaty 8 First Nations will also be moving forward with the judicial review of the construction permits on the basis that they were not adequately consulted before the issuing of the permits. Hearing of this application is set for 3 days in Victoria, starting November 18, 2015.

Treaty 8 First Nations are willing to take their case all the way to the Supreme Court. You can help see justice done by donating, fundraising online and spreading the message to Join the Circle [link to Facebook]. With your help, British Columbia can stand firmly beside Treaty 8 First Nations and prevent the destruction that the Site C Dam will cause, protect land that can feed millions, and preserve Treaty 8 First Nations rights.

Marc Eliesen, economist and former CEO of BC Hydro says it simply: “There’s no need for Site C. It doesn’t make sense in the context of environment, it doesn’t make sense in the context of wanting to work with First Nations and it doesn’t make sense because the B.C. ratepayer will pay enormously over the next three years.”

What does make sense is building support for the West Moberly and Prophet River First Nations as they take their case to the next level. With your help, and the incredible gift of matching funds, we can get there!
