Dear Friends of SJS,
Please join our partners for these great events:
Oct. 16:

Pacific Peoples' Partnership & the South Pacific Island Community of Victoria are proud to present the South Pacific Music Sensation TE VAKA!!

Te Vaka will be bringing their vibrant blend of South Pacific traditional rhythms, indigenous instruments, and globally influenced contemporary sounds to Victoria, BC's Alix Goolden Hall on October 16th!

Te Vaka has been described as one of the most original World music acts on the international scene. The award-winning musicians and dancers from Tokelau, Tuvalu, Samoa, Cook Islands, and New Zealand deliver a robust array of Pacific flavors in a genre that is uniquely its own. Using the rhythms of the log drum ("pate"), combined with traditional and contemporary instruments, Opetaia Foa'i and the band deliver a robust array of Pacific flavors in a genre all of its own. KINA: HEALING NEPAL CAMPAIGN
SJS student Mikaela Chia shares the following information about a campaign in support of earthquake restoration of schools in Nepal:

This past May, Elijah Krag, a student from UVic, went with a small team to Nepal shortly after the first earthquake hit for relief work.

Shortly after, their team was caught at the epicentre of the second 7.3 Magnitude earthquake.

They are now in the midst of launching a campaign to rebuild 4 earthquake proof schools, and promote education for girls and the community in 4 rural villages in Nepal.

His/Their story can be heard here:

Eli has been working extremely hard, and I am truly inspired by his passion and commitment to this movement towards change.

He is currently seeking help to promote the campaign and raise awareness surrounding the issue. Please share this information widely.
