Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Island-dwellers,

I have recently completed a week of study and pilgrimage in Rome and Assisi, undertaking a course entitled "The Francis Effect" at the Anglican Centre in Rome, with a range of exceptional speakers, visits to the Vatican, Pope Francis's general audience, and visits to the Franciscan sites in... Assisi.

We were examining the topic of transformational change, by looking at the life and work of Pope Francis, and his inspiration St. Francis of Assisi, as witnessed in the recent environmental encyclical "Laudato Si".

I would be glad to share with you some of my observations, stories, and experiences, and invite all and any, from any faith background or none, to be in dialogue with me about the implications of "the Francis effect" for living in today's world.

As we look towards the upcoming Paris summit on climate change and the environment, I would particularly like to offer this event in honour of the late Bob MacRae (The Ven. Dr. Robert D. MacRae) , former archdeacon of the Anglican diocese and for many years Rector of St. John the Divine, Quadra St.
