Gathering together

Dear PAOV,

What do you love most about this time of year? For me, it’s the chance to gather with friends and loved ones to celebrate the holiday season and the start of a new year. It’s in our nature as humans to gather together, to rejoice and reflect, to work and to play.

Some of my own favourite gatherings have taken place in Canada’s vast wilderness: at the base of a mighty tree on a Wilderness Committee trail building expedition, or on the bank of a rushing river before launching my canoe to join fellow paddlers on the water.

The Wilderness Committee is 35 years old this year, and our success has always been based on bringing passionate people together to do great things. We know that we can go further in the company of others.

Can you gather with us again this winter and make a gift of $25, $50 or $100?

In 2015, we came together to save our wild Earth in so many of our campaigns.

  • Torrance Coste, the Wilderness Committee’s Vancouver Island Campaigner, is working to bring concerned citizens closer to the threatened ancient trees of the Walbran Valley, in the hopes that a public outcry will be enough to halt logging company Teal Jones in its tracks.
  • Climate Campaigner Eoin Madden travelled to BC’s coastal communities aboard a solar-powered catamaran this summer because he knows that people power is the strongest energy to drive real change.
  • Wilderness Committee Policy Director Gwen Barlee is leading a team of passionate people to produce videos and school guides to inform and inspire children to protect endangered wildlife, so that they can enjoy a wild and beautiful future.
  • Manitoba Campaigner Eric Reder led a group of wilderness witnesses down the lower Bird River in canoes and kayaks, showing them what’s at risk if mining continues in the area.

We know how powerful our collective voices can be in ensuring protection for Canada’s wilderness. On these campaigns and others, we rely on donors and supporters like you to gather with us to protect our wild.

This holiday season, please give generously.

Your gift lets us bring together more Canadians to fight climate change, protect endangered species and defend wild lands across the country.

For the wild,

Joe Foy | National Campaign Director
Wilderness Committee

Joe Foy

P.S. Your year-end gift of any amount will make a difference, because together we can create a future Canada where vast wilderness is interwoven with rushing rivers and sparkling lakes, where the call of the owl echoes in the forest.
