RAVEN is looking to raise 300,000 miles to cover travel for First Nations Chiefs, elders, and community members to attend court challenges, meet with political leaders, and attend solidarity events around the country. Can you help by donating some of your miles? "Being able to bring community members to witness history being made, to be present in courtrooms and and rallies in support of their brave legal challenges is another side of supporting First Nation’s access to justice,” says Susan Smitten, RAVEN’s Executive Director. “Your donations of miles literally go a long way toward alleviating the costs borne by nations who are trying to protect Mother Earth for all of us.”
Two years ago RAVEN used Aeroplan Miles to support the Tsilhqot’in Elders Bus trip to Ottawa for the Supreme Court of Canada title hearing of the Roger William case. The elders on the bus testified in the original trial, which started in 2002. They traveled 1000’s of miles to witness the historic Supreme Court hearing. Aeroplan Miles were used to purchase hotel rooms across the country to help offset the cost of transporting more than 20 people from the remote BC community.
