LNG in Victoria? A Community Forum
With a massive liquified natural gas plant proposed for the Saanich Inlet, B.C.'s LNG industry is right on Victoria's doorstep. If approved, the facility will liquify 6 million tonnes of gas every year, filling tankers passing through the Saanich Inlet every 3-5 days for the next 25 years. While Steelhead LNG has already received export licenses to carry out the project, a number of environmental assessments are still pending, and residents have begun to voice their concerns about the risks the project poses.
Dr Eoin Finn, a retired chemist and partner of the major accounting and consulting firm, KPMG, will share his expert research on the safety, climate, ecological and economic impacts of B.C.'s proposed LNG industry, focusing on the Steelhead Malahat project. Updates will also be provided from the The Saanich Inlet Network.

Call for Volunteers:
Citizen Assembly pilot - Researchers needed!
BCspeaks is a brand new Victoria nonprofit dedicated to making Citizen Assemblies a regular part of BC's political landscape. We want to enable ordinary citizens to become more involved in political decision making.
As a first step in this new initiative, BCspeaks
has designed a pilot project to run with Grade 12 students at a Vic High Social
Justice Studies class. Over the next three months, we will help the students
choose a local social justice topic, research and learn about it (this is where
you come in!), and present recommendations to the appropriate governmental body
(e.g. city council).
We need a couple of researchers who can dedicate 10-15 hours in late February and March to helping us research the student's chosen topic, including helping us identify subject matter experts who will appear and present to the assembly.

Filmmaker looking for contributions:
Hello SJS community members! I am filmmaker/Uvic grad student, currently directing a feature documentary about legendary Vancouver politician/activist/socialist icon Harry Rankin. The film centres on Rankin's 1986 bid for the mayor's seat, and explores his legacy through six key characters: his son, his ally, his student, his partner, his comrade, and his opponent. What makes this project completely unique is that it builds upon an unfinished 1986 documentary film about Harry, and features never-before-seen footage of Harry as well as a cast of young political heavyweights in their early days (Libby Davies! Jean Swanson!
Jim Green! Gordon Campbell!).
We've nearly finished shooting the film, and are
currently fundraising to complete it. Have a look at our five minute demo

Doc uncovers Chinese-First Nations relations in early B.C.
