PAOV,
It's trail building season at the Wilderness Committee, and we need your help.
We’re gearing up for another busy spring and summer, with volunteer trail building trips coming up in two of BC’s most incredible ancient rainforests: the threatened Walbran Valley and Clayoquot Sound.
This spring, we’ll lead three trips into the Walbran, working alongside members of the Friends of Carmanah/Walbran, who have revived old trails and established new ones in the Central Walbran Valley.
Then in the summer, we're heading back to Wah-nuh-jus – Hilth-oo-is Tribal Park (Meares Island) in Clayoquot Sound, on immersive four-day excursions working with Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks staff to repair, upgrade and expand the famous Big Tree Trail near Tofino.
WALBRAN VALLEY TRIP DATES:
Friday, March 18th – Sunday, March 20th
Friday, April 8th – Sunday, April 10th
Friday, May 27th – Sunday, May 29th
CLAYOQUOT SOUND TRIP DATES (TENTATIVE):
Friday, May 6th – Monday, May 9th
Friday, June 10th – Monday, June 13th
Friday, July 15th – Monday, July 18th

Wait...we need a ride!
In order to get our staff and trail building volunteers out to bear witness in endangered wilderness areas like the Walbran Valley, our team requires a safe, reliable vehicle.
Unfortunately our trusty Ford Explorer recently died, and we’ve been having a hard time locating a quality replacement.
Do you have a good vehicle, or know someone who does?
We are looking for a four-wheel drive vehicle (year 2000 or newer) with good clearance, room for 4-5 people, lots of space to carry gear and less than 200,000 kilometres.
Donating a used vehicle to the Wilderness Committee would be an amazing way to support efforts to save the Walbran and other Vancouver Island forests (while reaping the tax benefits)!
Our field program is more successful each year thanks to volunteers and supporters like you.
If you want to sign up for a trail building trip, or if you know of a vehicle that might meet our needs, please contact Emily in our Victoria office. She can be reached at 250-388-9292 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Be sure to clarify which trip(s) you're interested in, let us know where you're coming from, if you need a ride or if you can drive a vehicle and take other volunteers.
Can't wait to hear from you!
For the wild,
Torrance Coste | Vancouver Island Campaigner
