Tell BC to keep the Fraser fossil fuel-free
Hi PAOV,
Yet another company wants to export dangerous climate-changing fossil fuels via BC’s west coast. But you can help make sure that doesn’t happen!
The proposed Wespac liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the Fraser River at Tilbury Island in Delta would bring polluting fuel from fracking operations in northeast BC to power plants in Asia.
From the moment it leaves the ground to when it’s burned, this stuff causes climate change. In BC, that means deadly forest fires, disappearing glaciers and rivers too warm for salmon to spawn. Recent studies show natural gas is nearly as bad or worse than coal for the climate.
Not only would this project contribute to cooking the climate, it would also pose serious safety hazards to the people who live along the Fraser!
Putting an LNG terminal between two densely populated areas is madness. So is building new fossil fuel infrastructure when we know we need to transition to clean energy.
Right now, the BC Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) is looking for your thoughts on the scope of its assessment for the first phase of the project. The deadline for public comment is December 21, 2015.
This is our chance to tell them to include impacts on the climate and public safety in their review. Will you take a moment to fill out the online form and let the BC EAO know how you feel about this issue?
