Tell the Prime Minister to halt the hearings and reject this project
Hi PAOV,
Our climate needs you. The National Energy Board (NEB) is holding their hearings in Burnaby next week to rubber stamp the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline.
We need to tell Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to honour his promise to put a stop to this sham process and bring back real environmental assessments.
The proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline will carry enough oil to release more than 100 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year – equivalent to the total annual emissions of the nation of Greece – yet the NEB will not take the project’s climate impacts into account.
It will bring the number of tar sands tankers on the BC coast to 400. These ships will be carrying diluted bitumen, which sinks during a spill, becoming irretrievable and polluting our waters for decades.
Kinder Morgan’s plans also trample the rights of Indigenous peoples to free, prior and informed consent. The Tsleil-Waututh First Nation – whose traditional territory is at grave risk of a spill – is suing the federal government for its lack of consultation on the project.
Join us for a rally on January 23 at 1:00 p.m. outside the Delta Hotel in Burnaby to tell the Prime Minister to put a stop to the NEB hearings and reject this pipeline! Find more details about the rally and invite your friends via the Facebook event page.
There will also be a march on the day the hearings begin, Tuesday, January 19th at noon, which will be starting at Jim Lorimer Park in Burnaby. You can find more info about the march here.
Even if you can’t make it to these events, you can still take action!
Please write Prime Minister Trudeau a letter urging him to put an end to this flawed pipeline review process and reject the Kinder Morgan pipeline.
Together we’ve proven that pipelines can be stopped. Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline is as good as dead. That makes it more important than ever that we stop Kinder Morgan, too!
