Yesterday, we received a copy of a press release sent out by the elected Chair of the electoral reform committee, Francis Scarpaleggia. He was singing our song!

He said: “I am honoured to be part of this historic process to examine options available for modifying Canada’s electoral system so that the distribution of seats in the House of Commons better reflects each party’s share of the popular vote,”

You can only do that by introducing proportional representation into our electoral system.

This is great news but we can’t take take our hands off the steering wheel. We still need the Special Electoral Reform Committee to recommend legislation for proportional representation, we need the House of Commons to pass it and we need the Senate to rubber stamp the bill that will Make Every Vote Count.

There is still a lot more work to do, but we are winning!
