[Happy Interdependence Week!] Media & Residential Internship Opportunities + Kombucha Recipe + Gratitudes

Weekly offerings, happenings, and know-how of Ashevillage & friends.

Greetings PAOV

At Ashevillage, we find the concept of Interdependence vs. Independence worth noting! "The principle of interdependence is the key to the existence of nature's entire system. The best example we have of this are the cells in the human body. They connect with one another through mutual giving for the benefit of the entire body. Every cell receives what it needs to exist, and applies the rest of its strength toward the general body." ~Professor Gunter Blobel, M.D., Ph.D. We see this in symbiotic relationship throughout the natural world and seek to apply it to human interpersonal interactions for a whole and vibrant life for all.

Within our interdependence we also seek conscious sovereignty for all - the full right and power for self governance. Self Responsibility. Using our so-called independence to help proliferate goodness in the world. We prefer to celebrate this vs. abstract concepts of freedom, imperialism & forms of patriotism that proclaim dominance over others.

Wishing you a happy Interdependence Day!

We are inviting two more superstars to join our 4-month, fall Residential Internship. Come live and work with Ashevillage Institute & Sanctuary, focusing on a variety of tasks and experiencing the full spectrum of what we do. Click here for more information and to apply. “My internship has been great! It’s exactly what I’ve been wanting. After being in school where I spent a lot of time behind a desk, steeped in academic thinking, I really needed this. Now, I’m enjoying being outside and doing other meaningful work. Learning by doing. Working with my hands. Being in my body. Getting my thoughts flowing. Doing something that is important to me…and to the world…” ~ Emily MacGibeny, 2016 intern

[GRATITUDE] THX WILD FOOD & FERMENTATION WORKSHOP

So much gratitude for a great week-long Wild Food & Fermentation Workshop. We had an amazing crew of over 20 teachers, staff, volunteers and worktraders who helped to pull it all off.

Big thanks to Quinn Asteak, program coordinator, intern Emily Picart and their superstar team of volunteers for lining up a stellar cast of top-shelf local teachers, herding cabbage, shuffling chairs and keeping class participants informed of the dynamic daily schedule of field trips.

We bow with gratitude to all our teachers for how they *do* in the world so passionately and gifting us with their knowledge. Gracias á Sandor Katz...

[RECIPE] REFRESHING SUMMERTIME KOMBUCHA DRINK

Are you looking for a refreshing, bubbly, sweet alternative to soda? Try this delicious recipe for kombucha. Kombucha is easy to make at home for less than a dollar a bottle, compared to almost four dollars a bottle at the store. What is kombucha? Fermented sweet tea. Why drink it? Probiotic benefits: yeast & bacteria that benefit intestinal balance. What & where to get a scoby? Symbiotic Community of Bacteria & Yeast; aka the “mother” that's needed for brewing kombucha. You can get them from an acquaintance: ask around, scoby grows and expands, people give them away often. Or you can buy one via the internet from the many reputable providers out there.

Ingredients for a 1 gallon batch which makes 5-7 bottles:
• 1 gallon boiled water
• 1 1/4 cups of sugar
• 8 tsps black &/or green tea
• 2 cups of prior batch
