This is more than a regional spat — it's a fight for our future
Dear Paov,
It took only moments after our provincial election for the media to declare the battle between BC and Alberta underway.
At issue is the Kinder Morgan pipeline which would enable further expansion of the tar sands and bring a sevenfold increase in tar sands tankers to the west coast.
Now the implication is that this is a regional dispute — BC’s coast versus Alberta’s oil. Trudeau even declared the pipeline to be in the “national interest.”
But Canadians know better. After all, killer whales are right alongside rolling fields of wheat in our national consciousness.
How could it be in the national interest to put our famed coastline at risk of a catastrophic oil spill? To deepen the climate crisis as our communities already bear its burden? To run roughshod over the rights of Indigenous peoples when we preach reconciliation?
We need you to tell your community that opposition to Kinder Morgan is about standing up for our shared values. Will you write a letter to the editor of your local paper?
Write your letter! Let’s show Canadians that we are more than a reckless pipeline. For the climate,
