Are you ready to stop Kinder Morgan?

Are you ready to stop Kinder Morgan?

Here are some ways to get more involved.

The PIPE UP Network is continuing our opposition to the Kinder Morgan Pipeline expansion.
We were excited to hear
Attorney General David Eby’s announcement last week.
We also know we have to keep doing work on the ground to make sure this expansion never happens
and we hope you agree!

Over the past 6 months have been hosting workshops to... help people get skilled up for the work we are doing and now we want to be as organized as possible.

There are three opportunities for you to help.

  1. Eyes on the ground” - We are setting up teams in Surrey, Langley, Chilliwack, and Abbotsford to watch areas that Kinder Morgan has said they want to start the pipeline expansion. We know they are not allowed to do work on public lands yet but we also know they do not always follow the rules. If you would like to be on a team that is dedicated to keeping an eye on Kinder Morgan, this is the job for you! * Also, if you are in an area that you think they are doing work, take a picture and let us know

  2. Direct action teams - We need to be prepared for direct action if Kinder Morgan starts building. This could be in the next few weeks or it could be months from now, we just know we need to be prepared. Our goal is to gather groups of people dedicated for certain tasks in direct action situations.

    1. Media team - Responsible for media work such as social media and press releases.
    2. “Legal” team - Responsible for making sure that if there are situations where people get arrested they have safety nets set up for them (medication, pets taken care of, loved ones contacted, etc.).
    3. “de-escalation”/Peacekeepers - Responsible for limiting confrontation between direct action participants, and between direct action participants and police.
    4. Police Liaison - Responsible for being the main police contact for an action. Needs to be someone who can interact calmly with police officers.
    5. Supplies Team - Responsible for collection of supplies during direct actions, either short term or long term.

3. Stand with Kwantlen - the PIPE UP Network has chosen to put a large portion or our organizing capacity towards the Kwantlen Nation’s fight against Kinder Morgan. This is not a new decision but there are lots of new things happening. If you want to directly support Stand with Kwantlen you can contact us or follow them on Facebook.

Everything we do will be under the direction of the First Nation Community whose land we are working on. Each team will also report back and be working in collaboration with the larger group.

**If there is anything else that you would like to see happen, please let us know and we can do our best within our capacity to make it happen.

Along with the action teams, we will be organizing more workshops to help people be as effective as possible in their roles. If you want to get involved but do not feel ready, let us know and we can make sure you have an opportunity to take a workshop or two!

Let me know what role you want to take,
we are looking forward to continuing our work with all of you!
