PAOV — You are part of an unstoppable movement!

Thank you for supporting RAVEN! You backed some incredible wins this year. We are excited to fly on up to 2018 with every one of you, and we hope you will join RAVEN’s Circle of Allies so these strong legal precedents can just keep on coming.

Last week, the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in, Vuntut Gwitchin and Na Cho Nyäk Dun First Nations celebrated a unanimous Supreme Court of Canada decision upholding the Land Use Plan to protect 80 percent of the Peel Watershed in northern Yukon. The judgment reverses the (previous) Yukon government’s attempt to open up the majority of the pristine Peel Watershed to mining and fossil fuel extraction.

“The Supreme Court of Canada has upheld our treaty agreements and this is the outcome we were hoping for. This is a victory for our modern-day treaties and the collaborative planning processes promised for Land Use Planning.” ~ Chief Roberta Joseph, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation.

The Circle of Allies back the RAVEN team so we can deliver on our mission: to raise legal defence funds to help Indigenous Peoples in Canada defend their treaty rights and the integrity of their traditional lands and cultures.

JOIN THE CIRCLE Chief Roberta Joseph has commended RAVEN’s work: “It’s not every-day that we come across an organization such as yours that would assist First Nations with such a cause as ours. It is been an honor to work with you. I would like to express our great gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for all of the staff who assisted with this fundraising. I wish you all well as you continue your great work on supporting Indigenous causes throughout Canada. Mahsi cho.”

And yes, there is even more good news!

The Tsilhqot’in Nation is celebrating the Federal Court’s dismissal of two judicial reviews brought by Taseko Mines Ltd. in their numerous attempts to mine for the gold and copper underneath Teztan Biny (Fish Lake).

“The Tsilhqot’in share gratitude in the conclusion of two fair judgements that serve as vindication to the decades of struggle to protect Nabas and Teztan Biny (Fish Lake).”
~ Chief Russell Myers Ross, Chief of Yunesit’in, Director of the Tsilhqot’in National Government

RAVEN’s Circle of Allies stand shoulder to shoulder in support of the rights of Indigenous Peoples, so that we can help to achieve parity in the courts for the people on whose land we live. This giving season, we’re looking to grow the circle to include 45 new members, who can commit to join us to put our proven strategy into action for Indigenous Peoples. Are you ready to put reconciliation into action? Please join the Circle of Allies today.

With great appreciation for all that you do,
