Dear Paov,
Politically motivated audits by the Canada Revenue Agency and archaic charity laws have silenced the voices and threatened the future existence of vital charities in Canada. Now there is a chance to do something positive about this injustice.
The federal government promised reform and appointed an Expert Panel to hear from Canadians. In 2016, over 20,000 people sent letters urging the federal government to reform our laws to protect Canadians' right to be heard through the charities they support.
Hundreds of organizations also participated in the consultation and made detailed
submissions – including West Coast Environmental Law (through our sister organization,

the West Coast Environmental Law Research Foundation ). In March 2017, the Expert Panel submitted its final recommendations to the Minister of National Revenue. Its report contained a clear call to action: fix the broken system.
However, to date the federal government... has done nothing to implement the Expert Panel’s recommendations.
We have heard that a decision may be made in the next 7 days. We need to raise our voices to make it clear to the government that we want them to fix our broken charity laws now.
