Not an average month

The Leadnow community has been fighting on so many fronts that it’s been hard to keep up with it all -- so I thought I’d send a quick note to share some of the highlights from an amazing month.

Here’s a quick summary of what your Leadnow community has accomplished in the last month:

You made 97,000 phone calls to stop Doug Ford

The results of last Thursday’s Ontario election were heartbreaking -- but we’re proud of the incredible campaign Leadnow members in Ontario launched to challenge Doug Ford’s PCs.

In just 3 weeks, hundreds of volunteers organized 150 phone banks across Ontario and made over 96,000 calls to make sure anti-Ford voters hit the polls. Thousands more chipped in to build the campaign from the ground up, and to blanket key ridings with radio, print, and digital ads. Leadnow’s Stop Ford messages reached over four million people.

Your campaign helped block some of the most extreme far-right PC candidates from winning their local races -- but in the end it wasn’t enough to prevent a Ford majority. Now we’re working with our Ontario community to decide what role Leadnow should play in defending against Ford’s agenda.

You held the biggest day of action Trudeau has ever seen

When Trudeau’s Finance Minister announced that the government was planning to use our tax dollars to buy out Kinder Morgan’s failed pipeline and tanker project, you sprang into action and led the biggest national day of action since Trudeau was elected.

In less than a week, Leadnow members across the country joined forces with allies to plan more than 100 snap actions to Stop the Kinder Morgan Buyout. Your huge day of action made headlines across the country and even forced the Environment Minister to respond to the growing backlash.

Stay tuned for the next steps in our campaign to stop this outrageous buyout before it’s finalized this summer.

You helped Joanna win her campaign to save lives on the Highway of Tears

Leadnow member Joanna just won her campaign for safe, affordable transportation on the Highway of Tears -- a stretch of highway in northern BC where untold numbers of mostly Indigenous women and girls have gone missing and been murdered while hitchhiking.

When Greyhound announced plans to cut bus service on the highway, Joanna launched a petition on our start-your-own petition site and 8000 of you signed the petition. When news broke that the BC government had no plan to ensure safe transport, you turned up the volume with hundreds of emails and phone calls.

The pressure worked. Last month, BC’s Transport Minister Claire Trevena announced that her government has launched a long-haul bus service to replace the Greyhound on the Highway of Tears.

Joanna’s big win started with a petition on our website. If you’ve got an idea for something you’d like to see change in your community, you can start your campaign here in minutes.

Whether we’re working to block far-right candidates from getting elected or supporting local demands for safe public transit, the key ingredient in all our campaigns is people-power.

Our power comes from you, and the almost half a million other Leadnow members who take action together.

On our own it would be hard for any one of us to make a difference. But together, we’ve become one of the most powerful forces for positive change out there. Thanks for being a part of it.

We’re in this together,
Logan and Jolan, on behalf of the entire Leadnow team
