Rally to support Tsilhqot'in Nation

Rally to support Tsilhqot'in Nation r1 ... PAOV —

The Tŝilhqot’in Nation will be in court again this Monday for the next chapter in the never-ending Taseko saga. The Tŝilhqot’in will be asking the court to stop Taseko Mines Limited from turning the sacred Teztan Biny (Fish Lake) area into a mess of drill holes, test pits and seismic lines.

The Tŝilhqot’in are challenging a 2017 provincial permit issued to Taseko in the dying days of the outgoing BC government, which allows Taseko to conduct a comprehensive drilling program in the Teztan Biny area. In April, the federal government attempted to stop it with an injunction application but failed. Only the Tŝilhqot’in court challenge stands between Teztan Biny and Taseko’s shovels in the ground.

And we’re not talking just a few drill holes here and there. Taseko wants to drill 122 exploratory holes, excavate 367 test pits and build 20 kilometres of seismic lines. There are also trees to cut, roads to put in…the laundry list of proposed damage is long and daunting.

Please come out and support the Tsilhqot’in as they fight this zombie mine! You can join us for a ceremony and quick rally with Xeni Gwet’in Councillor Loretta Williams and Tsilhqot’in elders. Your voice will help to lift them up and carry them through another costly day in court. Please bring your energy and encouragement for this nation of tireless land defenders!

When: Monday, June 25, 9:15 am

Where: Courthouse steps on Blanchard and Courtney

The event will only take half an hour, but if you’re able to stay longer, the Tsilhqot’in would welcome a quiet, friendly presence in the courtroom. If you can't attend, please consider making a donation.

Please pass this invite on to allies in your network!
With thanks for all that you do for social and environmental justice.
