No matter that, historically, individual communities have always found ways to manage their common property; nevertheless, the story continues to be told. There is, after all, a underlying lesson. The tragedy of the commons occurs in a particular finite space, when there are separate and indifferent self-seeking actors, when there is no communal consensus as...

CETA & TTIP could lock-in fossil fuel exports to Europe
In May 2014, a ship with 600,000 barrels of tar sands bitumen from northern Alberta arrived at the Repsol refinery in Bilbao, Spain. It was the first shipment of tar sands crude to arrive in Europe. While that is distressing, the Natural Resources Defense Council has projected that Europe could...

Dear friends,
I attended one of the first Global Climate March actions on Saturday in California, and it was so full of vitality that I came away with a huge boost of hope. After a dark and challenging couple of weeks, I wish I could bottle that hope up and send it to you in an email.
War, racism, fear and hatred of the world’s most vulnerable -- these things are seemingly on the rise around the world, and they are compounded by our changing climate. And yet: Here is also a movement of people -- spanning borders and cultures -- that’s born out of love.
The Global Climate March is shaping up to be a huge mobilization, coordinated by countless organizations large and small, and already comprising over 2,000 events around...
