In a few short weeks the Canadian Youth Delegation will be travelling to Paris, France for the UN Climate Negotiations to hold the new government accountable to the promises they’ve made on climate.

This year, our delegation is made up of 17 incredible youth from across Canada who are calling on the Canadian Government to take bold action on climate by committing to a just transition to a fossil free economy and by taking important steps to reconcile the relationship between the Canadian Government and the Indigenous peoples of this land.
We simply couldn’t do this work without the generous support of donors like you.

Can You Collect Petition Signatures for Proportional Representation?
Dear PAOV
On October 19, 2015, our voting system handed the Liberal Party 100% of the power with only 39.5% of the vote - just .1% difference in popular support from the Conservative majority of 2011. A record of 9,105,011 Canadians cast ballots that elected no-one.
The exciting news is that thanks to our hard work, the new government has promised to make 2015 the last first-past-the-post election!
The Liberals campaigned on a promise to set up an all-party committee to study ranked ballots, proportional representation, mandatory voting and online voting, and introduce legislation for electoral reform in 18 months. Our window of opportunity to influence them is right now!

Terror Attacks, G20 Hypocrisy
Art Young
I join with many others who stand for a world of peace and justice in completely repudiating the terrorist attacks in Paris and the similar atrocity in Beirut. We express our full solidarity with the hundreds of innocent victims, dead and injured, many of whom remain in critical condition at this time.
That said, the terror attacks must be seen in a wider context.
We live in a world of massive inequality and environmental degradation, one dominated by the global 1% and the states that act in their interests. To maintain their power, in recent decades the U.S. and its allies have engaged in a seemingly endless series of imperialist interventions across the globe, unequal wars that...

The ITUC has condemned the barbaric terror attacks in Paris overnight, which left more than 120 people dead and many more injured. French President Francois Hollande has described the attacks, which took place at six different locations, as a « declaration of war » by the so-called Islamic state, and declared a national state of emergency. Sharan Burrow, ITUC General Secretary, said, « We grieve for the victims of the Paris attacks and all other such atrocities.Read more: ITUC Condemns Barbaric Terror Attacks in Paris - ITUC OnLIne

Brussels, 30 September 2015 (ITUC): The ITUC has welcomed the promulgation of Nepal’s new Constitution, following an overwhelming vote to transform the country from a religious monarchy to a secular republic with protections for fundamental rights and the interests of minorities. The process, begun in 2008 following the end of a long-running civil conflict which cost thousands of lives, culminated with 507 of the 601-member Constituent Assembly voting in favour of the new Constitution. Twenty-five Hindu-nationalist representatives voted against, and others from smaller opposition parties abstained.

Brussels, 26 October 2015 (ITUC OnLine): Trade unions remain concerned about the likely outcome of the Paris Climate Summit with the end of the final round of pre-Summit climate negotiations last Friday in Bonn, Germany. An appallingly weak text proposed by the Bonn meeting's Co-Chairs was improved by the insistence of some countries for more ambitious options, but the result falls short of what is needed.

Boost for Climate Action as ILO Adopts 'Just Transition'
Brussels, 6 November 2011 (ITUC OnLine): Hopes for the Paris Climate Summit in December to capture one of the three topline union demands have received a boost this week, with the UN's International Labour Organisation formally adopting criteria for realizing the 'Just Transition' principle. The decision of the ILO's Governing Body has defined essential steps countries should take to transform their economies to a low-carbon future, creating new jobs and supporting workers and communities in high-carbon sectors as industries are transformed.

Hey rabble readers!
So far corporate media coverage of Trudeau's government is all about pomp and circumstance, and softball questions. Harper set the bar way too low. Regardless, when Parliament convenes in early December we need to be ready, and send an independent journalist to the Hill who will ask tough questions and hold the Liberals to account. We don't have much time to fundraise for our award-winning Parliamentary correspondent Karl Nerenberg. It doesn't take much. With a goal of only $2,500 in monthly donations to keep Karl on Parl, you can help pledge the funds needed. Become a Karl on Parl patron here and you'll not only get the satisfaction of supporting independent media but you'll get great rewards too!

Indonesia: Workers Arrested at Minimum Wage Protest
Brussels, 30 October 2015 (ITUC OnLine): The ITUC has condemned the arrest of more than 20 demonstrators during a rally in Jakarta today to protest against the government’s decision to impose a new minimum wage system in the country. The new system gives the government the power to unilaterally set the minimum wage, excluding trade unions from the process. Reports received by the ITUC indicate that 23 protestors were arrested, as around 20,000 people gathered in Jakarta to voice their opposition to the government’s move.

Brussels, 12 November 2015 (ITUC OnLine): Qatar’s government has failed in an attempt to close down an investigation into its system of forced labour by the UN’s International Labour Organisation in a key decision of the ILO’s Governing Body this week. Worker and employer representatives combined with government delegates to vote 35 to 13, with 7 abstentions, in favour of sending a High-Level Tripartite mission to Qatar, putting added pressure on the country to end its system of modern slavery.
