The Syriza Problem:
Radical Democracy and Left Governmentality in Greece

Stathis Gourgouris

Although the history of the Left has produced an extraordinary theoretical legacy, which continues to be the nucleus of almost all radical thinking, it has nonetheless left a trail of extraordinary failures in practice.

Urgent: election called

r1 Now is our chance to really make our voices heard
View in browser Hey PAOV,

Sometimes it can feel like your voice isn’t being heard when it comes to the big issues facing our world, but you have more power than you know.

Sunday, the 2015 federal election was announced. Canadians will be heading to the polls on October 19th and this is a huge opportunity to make sure that important issues are addressed by party leaders.

The first leaders' debate is taking place tonight: let them know that you want to hear their vision of how Canada can help end extreme poverty by 2030. Read more: Urgent: election called

We vote or we lose

Hi Paov, I want to make sure you had a chance to read about OpenMedia’s plan to fight for the Internet and defend your digital rights during Canada’s upcoming election. We urgently need your help now to launch our action platform.

This is a crucial chance to fight back against:

  • Reckless government surveillance of your online life authorized by laws like C-51
  • Secret “trade” deals like the TPP that would criminalize your everyday Internet use
  • Price-gouging Big Telecom giants that block you from independent choices and lower prices

We can only launch our brand-new online action platform if you pitch in. Please donate today so we can hit the ground running.

Report by a Canadian participant

Richard Fidler

In retrospect, it must be said that the College of Cardinals made an astute decision in 2013 when they chose Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina as the Vicar of Christ. Pope Francis, as he is now called, has emerged as a world leader in speaking out on the major social and humanitarian issues ranging from climate crisis to poverty and social exclusion. Francis, the first Pope from the Western Hemisphere, is especially popular in Latin America, where the Church of Rome is contending with burgeoning evangelical sects and emerging secular movements around such issues as abortion and gay rights.

Early on in his papacy, Francis indicated his close...
