Campaign cash over Palestinian rights?

BDS: front and center in the political debate
Action Alert

The 2016 presidential candidates are trying to raise money by silencing our movement for Palestinian liberation. We need to send a strong message -- and over 10,000 people like you have already signed our petition. We'll be delivering it directly to the candidates, and running an ad in a major newspaper with the names of the signatories.

ITUC OnLine: Myanmar: National Trade Union Centre Officially Registered

Brussels 28 July 2015 (ITUC OnLine): The ITUC has written to the Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar to congratulate them on their official registration by the government.

In the letter to CTUM President Maung Maung, ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow said: “The ITUC and the international trade union movement are proud to have walked through the darkest period in the history of Burma’s independent labour movement with you and many other brilliant leaders and organisers. At this historic moment of celebration, I want to pay tribute to the workers, activists and their families who had been arrested, or lost their freedom and lives in Burma and in exile since 1988. History will remember them, and it is their bravery that has sustained the struggle.

ITUC OnLine: US Decision on People Trafficking in Malayisa Manipulated

Brussels, 27 July 2015 (ITUC OnLine): The ITUC is deeply concerned that the US State Department today upgraded Malaysia from "Tier 3" to "Tier 2 Watch" in its annual Trafficking in Persons Report. The unwarranted upgrade is presumed to be result of political interference by the administration to ensure that Malaysia remains eligible to participate in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), which has been under negotiation since 2008. The recently adopted Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) provides that Tier 3 countries cannot be parties to trade agreements with the United States.

Right to the City/Right to Landscape

From an Elitist to a More Just Urban Landscape in California's East Bay Area

Moderated by Laam Hae. Presentation by Don Mitchell, Professor of Geography, Syracuse University.

Both political ecology, especially as it has sought to come to terms with the politics of environmental racism, and critical landscape studies have shown that any landscape is situated within structures operating at other scales. Sometimes the key determinant of a process, outcome, or landscape morphology localist in one locale takes place somewhere far removed from where its effects are felt. Yet movements for both the right to the city and the right to landscape tend to adopt an overly localist approach to the production of space. In this paper, I will draw...
