I have some exciting news

And I want to know what matters to you r1

Paov -

I’ve just taken on a new role here at 350.org as the Canada Team Lead. That means you will be hearing more from me about our campaigns and opportunities for you to take action and organize in your community.

As I get started in this new role, I want to create some open lines of communication between us, Paov.

I would love for you to reply to this email and tell me a little bit about yourself. How is climate change affecting your community? Are you involved in a local climate justice group? Is there anything 350.org could be doing to help make your organizing more effective?

You can also ask me any questions you have about our upcoming work in Canada, or simply say hello!

I'll be monitoring our email inbox over the next few days, and will personally respond to your emails.

So, what do you say? Will you write back so we can kick off a conversation about our climate movement in Canada?

There's a lot for us to talk about and I want to know what matters to you, Paov.

If you have a couple of minutes, please hit reply to this...

Ron DeSantis doesnt want you to read this email

Our journalists are traveling to Florida to investigate the Sunshine State's governor and the political machine that powered his rise. We’re not just talking about just the typical “20 minutes in a diner” that too often passes for political reporting.

Ron DeSantis is the only candidate who even comes close to challenging Donald Trump in the polls for the Republican presidential nomination. No other candidate even gets out of the single digits.

But while DeSantis has made himself a right-wing star by “owning the libs,” far less well known is his actual record as governor and representative — as well as the wealthy corporate interests and political machine behind his rise in Florida politics.

Dogwood News This Week: intimidate, displace and punish

Facebook AV/VR r1 Dogwood Your place for
news and action Saturday April 8, 2023 This week people from communities harmed by Royal Bank’s oil & gas investments travelled to Saskatoon to speak at the bank’s annual general meeting.

But RBC security guards moved Indigenous and Black delegates into an empty room with a conference line. Bank executives refused to face them.

Undeterred, Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan speakers criticized RBC for funding the Coastal GasLink pipeline. They asked when the bank would stand up for Indigenous rights and the climate.

Eventually staff cut the mic and CEO Dave McKay refused to answer any more questions.

Outside the bank office in Saskatoon, police spotters...

Earth Month Spotlight: South Africa's Climate Justice Coalition

r1

Hi Paov,

This is Alex Lenferna speaking here, I am co-founder and general secretary of the Climate Justice Coalition – a 350 partner organisation in South Africa. We fight on many fronts for climate justice, and a rapid and just transition to a more socially owned, renewable energy-powered economy that provides clean, safe and affordable energy for all. I am writing to you today to tell you a bit more about our work.

In South Africa, rolling scheduled blackouts have been a recurrent reality for years under our so-called "loadshedding" policy. This reality leaves millions of people without energy for several hours a day on a regular basis. The darkness deepens poverty, inequality and unemployment. The fastest and most affordable way to solve this crisis is by implementing a rapid and just transition away from coal and to renewable energy.

South Africa has the opportunity to transform our energy system and create a more socially and ecologically just future, if it makes the right decisions now. The President of the country has outlined a major investment plan to shift the country to a clean energy future. However, for that plan to truly deliver on climate justice, it...

They havent learned a thing about how to cover Trump

TV’s talking heads seem positively giddy to have their favorite character back in the spotlight. But the corporate media’s breathless updates helped Trump raise millions for his war chest and expand his lead for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

Nearly eight years ago, Donald Trump came down the escalator at Trump Tower and rode a massive wave of media coverage to the Republican nomination and eventually the White House.

Yesterday, the mainstream media showed that they haven’t learned a damn thing since then about how to cover Trump.

All day long, cable news relentlessly followed Trump’s every move and hung on his every word. TV’s talking heads seem positively giddy to have their favorite character back in the spotlight.

The criminal charges against Trump are historic and should be covered. But the corporate media’s breathless by-the-minute updates helped Trump raise millions for his...

Climate justice = migrant justice

I’m writing to forward an email from our friend Syed Hussan, who has an urgent message about the closure of Roxham Road and the extension of the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA). r1

Paov,

I’m writing to forward an email from our friend Syed Hussan — executive director at Migrant Workers Alliance for Change and a member of Migrant Rights Network — who has an urgent message about the closure of Roxham Road and the extension of the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA).

Our struggle for climate justice is deeply connected to the struggle for migrant justice. Wildfires, floods, drought and other climate disasters are forcing more and more people to leave their home countries. We cannot let fear and hate guide how we respond when those who’ve done the least to cause this crisis need our help.

But with the expanded STCA, both the US and Canada have legislated a policy of turning away migrants. Now is the moment for all of us in the movement for climate justice to speak up. So please take a few minutes to read Hussan’s email and add your name to the petition being delivered tomorrow for Refugee Rights Day.

In solidarity,

Chris

Dear allies,

Eight migrant...
