Paov -

Last week I asked for your input on where we should focus our energy as we gear up to bring two new organizers into the 350 Canada team. And let me tell you, the survey results have been fascinating so far.

While the survey will be open until Sunday evening, “building the good” is currently in the lead as the approach that energizes you the most.

A pie chart displaying the responses to one of the questions from our strategy survey. The question is 'Which of the following approaches is most energizing to you?'. The options are 1 'Stop the bad - Erode Big Oil’s influence over all decisions about the energy transition', 2 'Build the good - Implement a just transition to renewable energy', 3 'Build the movement - Train and expand our mass movement'. The results are 44% for Build the Good, 39% for Stop the Bad, and 17% for Build the Movement Read more: Survey closing soon

New federal funds for healthcare?

Email template | Change.orgr1

PAOV — Canadians are fed up with the state of healthcare, as it becomes increasingly difficult to find a family physician or to get a timely referral for a specialist. Petition starter Yudhvir experienced this problem firsthand, as he watched his wife suffer for months while she waited for an MRI. Earlier this year, the federal and provincial governments agreed to a 10-year, $200 billion healthcare deal that included nearly $50 billion in new funding. Yudhvir is calling for the provinces to use some of the new funding to hire more doctors, nurses, and healthcare practitioners so that Canadians aren’t waiting for years to find a family doctor or see a specialist. Join Yudhvir and his 35,000 supporters by signing the petition now.

4 hours left and still 1,000 donors short of our goal

Monthly donations provide the ongoing support we count on to plan investigations that can take months or years, and they help us stand up to powerful individuals and corporations that want to exhaust our resources with lengthy court battles.

With just 4 hours remaining, we're still behind where we need to be to meet our April fundraising goal. The Intercept still needs 1,000 more readers to become monthly donors by midnight tonight.

We didn’t pull this number out of thin air. The only way to plan confidently for The Intercept’s future is to grow the number of committed monthly donors who contribute $5, $10, or whatever they can afford to keep our newsroom going.

That’s what we need to continue greenlighting deep-dive investigations of political and corporate corruption — and fight the lengthy legal battles that sometimes result.

But here’s the good news: If...

Please read this brief note from Jeremy Scahill on why tonight's goal matters

We take on difficult stories that powerful people don’t want to be told: the kinds of stories that can take years to report and sometimes involve costly legal battles. Our nonprofit newsroom relies heavily on sustaining donors who pledge some small amount of money each month — providing the predictable, ongoing base of support we need to greenlight long-term investigations.

I’ve never liked asking for money. But I hope you’ll bear with me, because this is important:

Right now, The Intercept is swimming upstream against a very challenging current. As more people tune out the news in disgust and frustration, much of what remains is shallow clickbait and hot takes, because that’s what’s cheapest and most profitable for most outlets to produce.

But that’s not the kind of journalism that I or any of my colleagues do. We take on difficult stories that...

16 hours left and still over 1,000 donors short of our goal

The outcome of this campaign will directly affect the resources we have available going forward to pursue the award-winning investigative journalism The Intercept is known for.

We have some troubling news to share.

With just 16 hours left in our April membership campaign, we’re still short of our goal of adding 3,000 sustaining monthly donors to The Intercept.

We understand that a lot of people are squeezed financially and simply can’t give as much as they’d like. And that many people are tuning out the news out of fatigue and frustration.

But the outcome of this campaign will directly affect the resources we have available going forward to pursue the award-winning investigative journalism The Intercept is known for.

If you want reporting that goes beyond the headlines to uncover secrets that powerful people don’t want exposed, will you become a...

Dogwood News This Week: HOW many rodeos?

Facebook AV/VR r1 Dogwood Your place for
news and action Saturday April 29, 2023 Yesterday provincial regulators issued a stop-work order to Coastal GasLink, halting construction on a three-kilometre section of the pipeline.

Inspectors busted the company pumping dirty, sediment-laden water into a tributary of the Anzac River northeast of Prince George – once again showing total disregard for fish habitat.

Environment minister George Heyman is struggling to show that B.C. can force a powerful Alberta pipeline company to follow the law. We’ll see if this changes their behaviour.

Meanwhile Heyman faces a crucial decision on an even bigger fracked gas pipeline – Enbridge’s Westcoast Connector proposal.

Will he...

Short and sweet

We’re behind, and if we’re going to reach our goal, we’ll need a major push. If you value the independent nonprofit investigative journalism of The Intercept, now is the time to show your support by becoming a monthly sustaining donor.

We’re going to keep this email short and sweet.

We’re now less than 48 hours away from the end of our April membership campaign. We launched this campaign with a goal of signing up 3,000 new sustaining monthly donors to The Intercept in order to solidify our base of membership support.

Unfortunately, right now, we’re behind where we’d hoped to be to reach our goal. If we’re going to make it, we’ll need a major push in these final hours of our campaign.

So if you value the independent nonprofit investigative journalism of The Intercept, please show your support...

Connecting with the passionate people who make up our movement always fills me with so much inspiration and hope.

Two weeks ago, I sent out an open-ended email asking you to introduce yourselves and share a bit about what’s happening in your community and what 350 Canada could do to help make your organizing more effective. I was blown away by the response – I received 219 emails from people in every corner of the country. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to connect with me, share your stories, and offer thoughtful feedback!

Before I dive into the big themes that emerged from those conversations, I want to invite you to continue shaping our strategy. Your input is critical, so please take a few minutes to take this quick survey on our campaign priorities for the rest of the year.

If the pace doesnt pick up, we may not make it

We still need over 1,500 more readers to become monthly donors by April 30. But here’s the good news: If just 1 percent of the people reading this message became monthly donors right now, we’d blow past our goal and stop sending these emails.
