An Open Letter to All Parties and House Leaders,
Canadians have given you a mandate. Sixty-three percent (63%) of us voted in favour to change the electoral system to one that is more fair, equal and democratic - a system that will make every vote count so that the will of the electorate is reflected in the House of Commons.
You have the task of improving democracy in a very undemocratic system. Seventeen million (17,000,000) Canadians cast ballots on October 19th and 4.6 million voters elected MPs who now hold a false majority. Millions of Canadians – more than two million each for the Liberals, Conservatives and New Democrats – have no representation in Ottawa. It is incumbent upon you to show us that you understand the problem, you are willing to fix it, and you are prepared to provide the leadership required to get the job done.

Strong Headwinds Are Making France a Stormy Sea

"The 49-3 is a brutality. The 49-3 is a denial of democracy." Despite French President François Hollande's opinions on this article of the French constitution in 2006, his government under Manuel Valls (who had himself been among the MPs proposing it be suppressed in 2008) used it to force through the unpopular law proposed by Minister for Labour Myriam El Khomri on May 10. This provoked an immediate reaction from the coordinating committee of workers’ and students’ unions calling days of national mobilization and strikes on May 12, May 17, May 19, to continue on May 26 and June 14.
This article, originally written just before the government's decision to use the 49-3, explains...

On Earth day, the Leadnow community worked with key allies to launch one of the biggest campaigns we’ve worked on since the Vote Together campaign in the last election: The People’s Climate Plan.
Our goal: connect people in communities across the country to pack the government’s consultations on the National Climate Strategy to give them a mandate to draft a climate plan that’s based on science, builds a 100% renewable energy economy and ensures a just transition for all.
Just a month later, the results have already exceeded all expectations. To date, community leaders across the country have confirmed over 72 climate town halls hosted by MPs and orientations hosted by community leaders. More importantly, over 1,600 people have attended one of the 11 town halls that have been held over the past month from Fredericton NB to Esquimalt BC.
